On Mother's Day, the Ontario Liberal Party challenged the Doug Ford government to partner with the federal government to make $10/day licenced child care a reality for Ontario families.
Since then, eight provinces have signed agreements with the federal government. Only Alberta and Ontario have not. What they seem to have in common is Premiers who don't really believe in the importance and value of early learning and child care and who were hoping that a Conservative federal government would offer tax credits instead. Tax credits that don't create new child care spaces.
I was proud to stand with women who are leaders in a wide range of fields to call for all parties to commit to child care.
The Ontario Liberal plan, in partnership with the federal government, would lower average fees in London by ~80% and save the average Ontario family with one child in care $10,000 per year. It would make a huge difference for families.
Supporting parents to re-enter the workforce, especially moms who are so severely impacted by the pandemic, is critical for our economic recovery.
